10 Flights Previously at MCO Will Again be Simpler, Faster, Better (SFB)
Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) announced today, the return and total consolidation of all Allegiant Air’s Orlando-area flights to SFB effective February 1, 2011. In February of this year, Allegiant moved 10 routes, or roughly 50% of their flight activity previously operated at SFB, to Orlando International Airport (MCO). The 10 markets returning to SFB are: Allentown, PA; Des Moines, IA; Grand Rapids, MI; Greenville/Spartanburg, SC; Huntington, WV; Lexington, KY; Knoxville, TN; Springfield, MO; Tri-Cities, TN; and Youngstown, OH. The re-launch of these routes from SFB takes the total number of markets served by Allegiant at SFB to 29.
“Our customers prefer the convenience and simplicity of Sanford, and we’re pleased to respond to their overwhelming requests to return all of our Orlando service to the airport,” Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company President, says. “Additionally, the substantially lower airport operating costs coupled with the more efficient operating environment at Orlando Sanford made this the right decision for Allegiant.”
Larry Dale, Orlando Sanford International Airport President and CEO commented on the consolidation back to SFB, “This is exactly the news so many people have been hoping for. We’ve received over a thousand emails from people telling us how important it was these flights to operate here. It is very good news indeed to have all of Allegiant’s Central Florida operations back at SFB, especially given the outpouring of support from the traveling public. Welcome home to Sanford, Allegiant!”
Greg Dull, TBI US Operations’ Vice President of Marketing at Orlando Sanford added, “We’re thrilled to have Allegiant determine that SFB is indeed the best fit for them and that it took less than nine months for the advantages of this airport to shine through. We look forward to building on the positive momentum created by the outcome of this airport experiment as we anticipate more services will result.”
