Orlando Sanford International Airport (airport code: SFB) began its history prior to the 1940’s as an 865-acre airport equipped with two runways. On June 11, 1942, the City of Sanford deeded the Airport to the U.S. Navy and the Airport became a Naval Air Station in support of the country’s efforts in World War II. In 1968 the city of Sanford (Florida) purchased the airport from the Federal Government of the United States. In 1997, TBI won the concession. It has 1.8 million passengers annually.
Orlando Sanford International Airport is located 18 miles northeast of downtown Orlando in Sanford, Florida. Main roadway access is off of Lake Mary Blvd, eight miles east of Interstate-4 at exit 98 and two miles east of Toll Road 417 at exit 49.
Orlando Sanford International Airport ranked in the top 100 largest US airports in 2007 by volume and among the top 50 busiest US airports in 2007 by movements. The Airport’s elevation is 55 feet above Mean Sea Level (MSL). It has four runways, - the longest of which is 2,600 metres long, 12 commercial aircraft stands, a terminal for domestic flights, a terminal for international flights with a total area of 30,000 m2, 1,000 surface parking spaces and a high-rise car park offering 704 spaces. The Airport also has an air cargo operation managed by TBI Cargo.
