Sangster International is the leading tourist airport in Jamaica, since it receives over 98% of tourists arriving on the island. The volume of passengers at Sangster International, which exceed 3.4 million in 2008, has seen gradual, continued growth in recent years. Among other factors, it has benefited from the fact of being located in the Negril to Ocho Rios corridor which has the largest accommodation capacity on the island. Montego Bay and its surrounding area have the highest number of hotel projects in Jamaica.
Sangster International Airport is currently served by 54 airlines (including 32 charter carriers) providing service to 69 international cities in 3 continents. More than 300 passenger flights depart the airport weekly. The majority of international destinations are located in North America (USA and Canada), although there are also routes to Europe, Mexico, Colombia and other Caribbean countries.
However, the airport also offers domestic flights (operated by Air Jamaica, International Airlink and Timair), and facilities for private aviation and cargo carriers such as Federal Express, Lynden Air Cargo or IBC-UPS.
